Rest day. Hike to Gangapurna Lake or Ice Lake (4,600m) for acclimatization. Visit the Himalayan Rescue Association clinic.
Short day to aid acclimatization. The landscape becomes barren and alpine. Watch for Blue Sheep on the slopes. Trek: 4 hours
Trek to the base of the pass. Steep ascent. Rest early to prepare for the big climb tomorrow. Trek: 3-4 hours
Start at 4 AM. Steep climb to Thorong La (5,416m). Celebrate! Long descent to the holy temple town of Muktinath. Trek: 8-9 hours
Visit Muktinath temple. Drive or trek down the Kali Gandaki valley through Jomsom to the apple orchards of Marpha. Trek/Drive: 4-5 hours
Descend dramatically to the deepest gorge in the world. Relax in the natural hot springs of Tatopani. Drive/Trek: 5-6 hours
Steep climb up heavily forested trail to Ghorepani. Great views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges. Trek: 7-8 hours
Early morning hike to Poon Hill for sunrise. Descend to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara. Trek: 6 hours, Drive: 1.5 hours
Tourist bus back to Kathmandu or fly. End of the journey.
The Annapurna Circuit is a challenging trek due to the high altitude crossing of Thorong La and the length of daily walks.
Excellent cardio stamina required. Previous trekking experience is highly recommended. Prepare by hiking and running.
High risk of AMS. Sleeping altitude increases gradually, but the pass day is extreme (5,416m). Diamox is advised.
Varied terrain: Rocky trails, screen slopes, icy patches at the pass, and dusty roads in Lower Mustang.
Pass crossing can be snowy and windy even in season. Cold nights (-10°C) above Manang.
