About This Trek

Hidden high in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the Valley of Flowers National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and variety of flora. During the monsoon season, this valley comes alive with splashes of colorโ€”blooming Blue Poppies, Brahmakamal, Cobra Lillies, and hundreds of other species. The trek also includes a visit to the sacred Hemkund Sahib, a Sikh Gurudwara and glacial lake located at a dizzying 4,329m, surrounded by seven snow-capped peaks.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Drive to Govindghat
1,920m

Scenic drive from Rishikesh/Haridwar to Govindghat via Devprayag and Joshimath. The journey follows the Alaknanda river. Drive: 10 hours

Day 2
Trek to Ghangaria
2,960m

13km hike from Govindghat (after a short shared taxi ride to Pulna). The trail is well-paved and passes through dense forest. Trek: 6-7 hours

Day 3
Explore Valley of Flowers
3,700m

Enter the National Park. Walk amidst endless meadows of flowers. Reach the river bed and explore deep into the valley. Return to Ghangaria. Trek: 6-7 hours

Day 4
Hemkund Sahib Excursion
4,329m

Steep climb to the holy lake. Visit the Gurudwara and Laxman Lokpal temple. The energy here is ethereal. Return to Ghangaria. Trek: 7-8 hours

Day 5
Ghangaria to Govindghat
1,920m

Descend back to Pulna/Govindghat. Drive to Joshimath/Badrinath (if open and time permits). Overnight in guesthouse.

Day 6
Departure

Drive back to Rishikesh/Haridwar for your return journey.

Difficulty & Fitness Requirements

Valley of Flowers is an easy to moderate trek, suitable for beginners and families.

Physical Fitness

Basic fitness required. The climb to Hemkund is steep and challenging, requiring good lung capacity.

Altitude

Hemkund is high altitude (4,300m), so hydration is key. AMS is rare but possible on the Hemkund day.

Terrain

Well-defined stone paths for most of the trek. Can be slippery during rain (monsoon season).

Weather

Monsoon trek (rained heavily). Rain gear (poncho/raincoat) is absolutely mandatory.
